After a 6:30 wake up and a long bus ride we finally made it to the blind and deaf museum where we were able to experience for an hour how it might feel to be blind or deaf. In the blind museum we were able to feel what it is like to go to the jungle, sit on a boat, to shop in the supermarket (where we were attacked by a vegetable monster), and a music room as if we were blind. After going through all those experiences together and temporarily losing half our group (sorry guys) we were able to ask our tour guide questions about how he lives his everyday life. He taught us how able and independent a blind person can be. The blind museum was an eye opening experience for us (no pun intended). We learned not to take things that might seem mundane and simple for granted. At the deaf museum we were able to see how hard it is to communicate without using words. With our guides not being able to hear it was very hard to communicate and get their attention. We had the chance to learn and communicate with sign language, body language, and facial expressions. It was really fun and amazing to see how all different types of people are able to communicate with each other without using words.
After the blind and deaf museum we went to park chaveirim which is a wheelchair accessible park. It was amazing to see how happy everyone was hanging with each other. We were also able to hear about the organization called Beit Izy Shapiro. Izy Shapiro was a man with a life goal to create inclusive parks. Today there are many of these parks around Israel and many more in the making. After many bathroom stops we finally made it back to the hotel. Btw did you know that Chaim was in a combat unit 😉
