MBNJ Voc 2017 - Week 6

HIGHLIGHTS
Week 6 is in the books, that means only 2 more weeks of camp… Wow! The week started off fairly normal. Monday was a typical day in camp. The only difference was we made sure to drink a lot in preparation for the fast. We drank water and gatorade to make sure that we would be hydrated when it came time to fast. Then after taking the day off on Tuesday for Tisha B’av, we headed up to Camp Nesher for Yom Nate B’Yachad. Besides for seeing all of our friends from the various Yachad programs, we also were able to enjoy some Yom Nate B’Yachad tshirts, yummy carnival food and a Shlock Rock concert!! On top of that, on our way up to Camp Nesher we stopped for pizza and on our way back we made a stop for ice cream. It was an overall awesome day!! Thursday and Friday were spent doing many of our usual jobs in camp. Every Friday is always everyone’s favorite pizza day at lunch. It is very yummy to eat, but it also camp be quite crazy to serve. We are looking forward to shabbas so we can rest and rejuvenate after a busy week! -Noah

DVAR TORAH:
PARSHAT VAETCHANAN By Avrumi Kalikstein
In Parshas Veschanan, Moshe reminds Bnei Yisroel that God is the one who took them out of Egypt with so many miracles (Devarim 4:34). Why did God mention the redemption from Egypt and not the creation of the world, which is a much bigger feat? The reason is that it was more relevant that Hashem took them out of Egypt because that was something they had experienced. They could not relate as well to creation, because it happened a very long time ago and they didn’t really have a connection to it. We mention Yetzias Mitzraim (Exodus from Egypt) every day in our prayers. Why is that? It is because we are talking about God redeeming us from challenges, which happens every day. God is a very important part of our lives and we want to always make Him relatable and contemporary to us.
