What an amazing second week of camp it has been!! The week started off with some rain, but luckily we stayed dry and had a really fun time. There was so much rain it even made the news!! We all gathered in the lodge for Despicable Me and ice pops as we waited for the rain to stop. Although we spent the day inside, we had a great time hanging out together and getting to know each other even more!
Once the sun came out, we were so excited to get outside and get back to our regular activities. This week was filled with so many of our favorite sports, art projects, night activities and a brand new activity: rock climbing! This week we also began our chugim (electives). There were so many options it was hard to choose. There are chugim for everyone – baking, gaga, art, basketball and so much more. We also had some new residents set up camp here at Moshava Malibu. They aren’t new campers but…they are 30 newborn chicks! We had so much fun holding them, naming them, and learning how to take care of baby chicks! We can’t wait to watch them all grow up right before our eyes!
Our first Shabbat in camp was incredible! We started off Friday night with Mifkad. Everyone was wearing blue and white and we all stood together and reviewed the past week, sang Hatikva, the Bnei Akiva song and our Moshava Malibu song. Shabbat day was filled with Davening, learning, games and hanging out with all of our new friends. We ended Shabbat with the whole camp singing Havdallah and dancing into the new week! We can’t wait for another amazing Shabbat at Camp Moshava Malibu!
KAYTANA: We had such an exciting week at camp!! This week we all had the opportunity to become cowboys and cowgirls! We were so excited to finally have horseback riding! We all saddled up and went for a ride with our new four legged friends! During art we also had the opportunity to make our own havdallah candles. It will be so nice to use them at home, and be able to remember the fun we had at camp! Our days didn’t just end at sundown this week, but we also had amazing night activities! On Tuesday night Eyal, our Rosh Eidah, gathered us together to break out….COLOR WAR!!! We split up into the blue team and the red team and competed in activities like soccer, relay races and music match-up! It was so much fun! On Wednesday night we all grabbed our sleeping bags, flashlights and pillow to have a “lina” (sleep out) on the soccer field. Although we slept in the bunk, we had a great time singing around the “camp fire,” eating s’mores and chilling out together!
ALEPH: Eidah Aleph had a jam-packed week with so many activities! From intense gaga games, to planting herbs at teva (nature), the fun never ended! During ceramics we had the opportunity to make Kiddush cups out of clay! We learned how to shape them, put them in the kiln and paint them. We can’t wait to see the finished product and add them to the havdallah set we are making at art! The days in camp are so much fun, but the nights are even better! On Thursday night we played a creative game called “See, Run, Build.” We split up into teams and had to copy a building using marshmallow fluff, graham crackers, chocolate chips and pretzels. The catch was that only one person on each team actually new what it looked like! This game really helped us with our teamwork and friendship building. By the end we were having so much fun hanging out and eating the yummy leftovers, we didn’t even care who won!
BET: This week at camp was filled with adventures! Although we spent most of Sunday indoors because of the rain, on Sunday night we all came together to play a crazy game of “Paint Twister!” It was so much fun getting our hands, feet and more covered in different colored paints! The night activities didn’t end there! On Thursday night we put on all black, grabbed our flashlights, and gathered to play capture the flag! It was pretty intense, but we all had a great time pretending to be ninjas to find those flags! Our nights may have been crazy, but don’t worry our days were pretty rocking too! This week we got to go horseback riding, rock climbing and played some awesome kickball games. We can’t wait for another amazing week at camp!
DALED: It was another fantastic week at camp for Eidah Daled! We started off the fun at Mifkad on Friday night. We wanted to honor Joel, our Rosh Eidah, our neighbor from up north, Toronto, Canada. When it was our turn to review the week, we held up a Canadian flag and serenaded the camp with the Canadian anthem. The excitement just kept coming after Shabbat! We spent the week climbing high at ropes, learning how all the instruments work at music, and cooling down in the pool. After such long and fun-filled days you’d think we would just want to go sleep after dinner. But we had so many amazing night activities to keep it going! On Wednesday night we gathered all the crazy random things we brought with us to camp and played a game called “Let’s Make a Deal!” It was so much fun! We are so excited for what’s to come next week!
MACHAL: MAC! HAL! MACHAL, MACHAL, WE ARE MACHAL!!!! We had such an awesome week at camp this week! We went on an amazing Jewish history trip to San Bernardino. We visited the main Jewish community, which we learned was one of the pioneer Jewish communities on the West Coast! We also had the opportunity to have a tour by a Rabbi here in San Bernardino. He taught us so many interested things. He took us to the Jewish cemetery and the public library, which is named after a Jew. It was very cool to learn about the Jewish history that happened right near our camp where we too are creating Jewish history! We finished off our trip with a sweet treat, Baskin Robbins ice cream! After such a great trip, we couldn’t wait to get back to camp and share all the new things we had learned! We were also excited to return to some of our regular camp activities, like art, ropes course, and sports! We are sure next week will be filled with just as much fun and excitement as this week!
We can’t wait to see what next week has in store for us!
