YBY2: July 24: Volunteering with Eichi Lov, Weitzman Science Institute & Beit Izzy Shapiro!

The day began with a nutritious breakfast including hard boiled eggs and carbs. After that, we enjoyed an hour long bus ride to Tel Aviv, singing, talking, and just hanging out together on the bus. We arrived at Eichi Lov hospital and began our first activity. We met Liraz from Shishi Sameach, an organization that cheers patients up by bringing volunteers to talk to them, giving them food and coffee to eat, and just being with them. The experience was absolutely amazing! Seeing the smiles on their faces brought joy to us as well. We could tell that some of the patients did not get many visitors. For example, when we entered into an 87 year old man’s room, he started singing and we sang with him, and had a great time. The hospital also gave all of us a chance to sharpen up our Hebrew by attempting to talk to the patients only in Hebrew. It was one of the most rewarding activities of the summer so far! Next, we drove to the Weitzman Science Institute. After a scrumptious meal of falafel, we toured the institution and explored both physics and biology in a very hands on way. For example, there were swings that showed Newton’s laws and a chair that mimicked the minimal gravity of space. This was far more than just a museum, it was amazing and blew our minds away. Next we drove to a fully accessible park called Beit Izzy Shapiro. We explored slides that could be accessed by wheelchairs and many other fun inclusive activities. Everyone enjoyed greatly! After a long day of amazing activities we headed back to the hotel. For the night activity, we played a thrilling game of “deal or no deal” where we gambled for our curfew time. The exact details are not allowed to be revealed, but it was an amazing day!!!
