July 17, 2014: Day 3

Today was a really powerful day. Every activity we did felt like nothing could be better. First we had a program about exclusion and its effects. We thought we already learned about the power of inclusion and got it down pat until we saw a video clip of us caught in the act of exclusion from earlier in the morning. Obviously, we had more to learn about inclusion and this was a good start. Then we had sensitivity training (learned what it’s like to live with different disabilities), and after that we bonded during a roller skating outing. We grew more excited for our trip to Israel after our Q & A session with Rebecca. Shortly after we had a delicious BBQ dinner. Then, there were a variety of activities to choose from such as Zumba, kickball, and ultimate Frisbee. After “sports” we heard the game changing news: we would be going to the West Coast instead of Israel. Right away many of us were saddened and nervous but these feelings were transformed after an incredible kumzitz around a bonfire. We sang together and shared how we decided to come on Yad B’Yad. During this time we shared many emotions and became closer over the similar feelings. Thanks to an incredible staff and unbelievable participants, we can’t wait to officially begin this journey all together.
