Day 1: What Is Inclusion?
Inclusion is more than opening the making space for someone at your table. It’s making sure everyone can actually walk in, feel comfortable, and know they belong.
True inclusion means designing spaces, programs, conversations, and communities with everyone in mind from the start. It’s about noticing who might be struggling to access a space, not just physically, but socially, emotionally, or intellectually, and being willing to adjust. Sometimes that looks like ramps, captions, or clear signage. Other times it looks like patience, flexible expectations, quieter spaces, or taking the time to explain something again without judgment.
Inclusion is not about lowering standards or doing favors. It’s about recognizing that people experience the world differently and committing to meet people where they are. When we build with inclusion in mind, we don’t just help individuals, we strengthen the entire community!
