Day 5: Saving a Seat for Someone New

We are naturally accustomed to limit our interactions to people familiar to us and shy away from conversations with people outside of our social circles. While this sometimes might make it easier to feel comfortable, it sadly prevents us from learning all sorts of things from those with different backgrounds and life experiences.

Let’s not settle for what’s easy. Today, be sure to invite a classmate you haven’t spoken with to sit with you at lunch or ask a coworker at the other end of the office to join you for a walk— you could even strike up a conversation with a fellow coffee-lover at Starbucks. Through these new experiences, you’ll not only learn more about those around you, but you’ll become more attuned to different ideas and perspectives.
